My original light was crap and I had tried using one of the knock-off models (and it cracked when I tried to install it). Not caring for originality, I spent some time in the wrecking yard this morning looking at the dome lights in different cars. Turns out the ones in the new beetle is a close match. Only problem was that they were all light grey. A little paint and a tiny bit of enlargement of the hole in the backpad did the trick. And all for $5.

OOPS files to big for posts

Nice work Bill, but you could've just gone with the black button Hella plug-n-play replacements at $10-20 out there now, & saved a lot of work (I think that the non-OEM knock-off are made with cheaper plastic that breaks easily, as you found out).

But then again, with this custom light, you can have a one of a kind! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

It does look good black on black!
