I'm assembling the column and I have 2. 1 came with the car the other I bought from karmann connection. The latter is complete and has the ignition key in it.

Upon inspection there is 1 wire missing on the indicator/ light flash side. The one with the car has a pinkish wire that goes to the very bottom of the switch housing.

The one I bought does not have this wire.

What is it for?

The colour of the wire is actually faded brown, likely to be an earth. It is the lowest visible wire, below this (invisible in this pic) is a black / blue wire.

on my loom the brown wire corresponds to a brown wire with black stripe.

I am pretty sure you are talking about the missing wire on the wiper switch. Missing wire is for intermittent wipers. They have a 5 pin plug. Aftermarket switches come with different color wires. They are supposed to be plug and play though.
