Need some expert input

I've been slowing going over the car to ensure everything is as proper as possible. I noticed that the spring under the engine lid has been painted the same color as the car - yellow in this case.

Two questions

Is there an easy way to remove the long spring rods. I've removed the middle clamp, but can't seem to remove the rods without a great deal of force

Second, what color should the rods be? I see some original cars where the rods are Grey?
