Looks like a very nice car. The only odd thing that makes no sense to me is that they say it was owned by the original owner until recently. But then say that the A/C has "since been removed by a previous owner". So not a one owner car....a second owner recently? And why the hell would someone remove the A/C from a supposedly pristine survivor?

Since the A/C was a dealer installed item, depending on the skillset of the dealer, some of those installations were real hack jobs. This was probably the issue with this car, and removal was the only way to present the car to yield a strong bid. When I purchased my car, I had the option to get A/C installed. Thank God I insisted on see one! Once I saw the hacksawed condenser in the front trunk I passed.

Yeah, it's been discussed. Sad to see cars that never get to see the road though...

Yes, went for an unbelievable 85K.

I was 2nd owner, the orig owner was my neighbor. I sold it about 2.5 years ago. I took the AC out, the orig owner had it installed not knowing about the hack job.

The hole cut in the engine compartment for the compressor let hot air in from the heat exchangers causing the motor to run too lean as well as the engine fan was blowing hot air over the motor. I had a 74' 1.8 without AC and that motor seemed to run hot as well compared to 2.0 cars I've owned. I remembered hearing about a heat problem with 1.8 heads back in the 80's.

That's interesting.....what else can you tell us about the car? Was it as nice as described in RM's write up.....was it ever repainted, oringal body panels, etc.?

I pulled out the motor to do some work and inspected every nook and cranny of that 914, I know it better than anyone else. It was a nice $35-40K car someone bought for $85K. Why didn't the original owner drive it? I only have a suspicion, he has passed on. What about the condition you ask? I will keep these things a mystery for the new owner to ponder. Signing out and not planning to be back.
