The hole cut in the engine compartment for the compressor let hot air in from the heat exchangers causing the motor to run too lean as well as the engine fan was blowing hot air over the motor. I had a 74' 1.8 without AC and that motor seemed to run hot as well compared to 2.0 cars I've owned. I remembered hearing about a heat problem with 1.8 heads back in the 80's. |
