Is the consensus that the best way to replace the outer firewall is to cut out old one—cutting around tubes, then grind the remaining bits off the tubes until clean? Or is there some other way?

Thats what i did as well but I cut mine in half as i have a 6 mount going on mine any way. I also left the top part in tact and sistered it up to the new piece and plug welded for additional strength..
