I also want to thank Mike and Scotty. I learned so much and also enjoyed meeting more 914world members. Thanks to all the guys that lent me a hand when needed. It was the most fun I have ever had while working so hard. I hoping to see some of you at Hershey or Ockteenerfest in Helen, GA later this year.

Your issues lead to a target being painted on you. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Man, it is sucking typing with this broken finger.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) |

My place in OH is always available. Selling the big country house with the barn by May, though.

I hated to miss it, but just could not get there that time of year. Maybe a nother one closish soon? +1 I know the last clinic was just a few weeks ago, but, any idea when you will be doing another one? Hard to say. Plans for the immediate future actually have me closing shop for about 6mo. I need to finish current house so I can sell it, and start/finish garage extension on new house so I have a place to keep all of my stuff. On top of that, I broke my finger right before the clinic and it still aint right. Im like the Frodo of transmission repair....it has slowed me down. Currently I have a 915 side shift conversion I am de bugging, RR on an R/P for wndsrfr, core build to finish and ship to Jim Hoyland, same for jmalone, and finishing up a 912 rebuild this week. I haven't accepted any more work at the moment. However, my plans are to do multiple clinics as able, when able. New job also sucks as I am treated just like any other state employee (no vacation time typical for doctors, just 3 wks sick/vac/yr). Just found out the extent to my Mom's newly diagnosed breast cancer so likely having to burn time up to go to San Diego, too. That may allow for a clinic there if I can find a location to hold it. That would also help me pay for the trip and likely lost hours at work. So, lots going on (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

ditto on the news.
Open offer to use my new garage space, barn and lot to host a mid Atlantic clinic. Just outside Baltimore, (the good side) Easy access of I70. |

Thanks for the well wishes. So far, Im not worried, just sucks a bit. Treatment will not be fun. Such is life. Being in the medical field numbs me a bit. |

Circling back, getting ready to re-install my rebuilt transaxle. (Hey - every time I went to the garage this winter it was cold...) ;-)
I have a 'left over' part. (Pic attached) Pea-Nut shaped. calling Dr. Evil... Please tell me it's not too far into it... Maybe this is what I get for being a wize azz - Dr Evil made it so I have 1 forward gear and 5 reverse?! Attached thumbnail(s) |

I answered your email. Based on what we find, I’ll write it up here. I am thinking this is a spare and there is an easy test.

Thanks! I'm pretty sure it's not a spare, looks like part # 901.303.211.01 "Detent". #20 on attached diagram.
What is the test? (Transaxle is still out of the car.) I answered your email. Based on what we find, I’ll write it up here. I am thinking this is a spare and there is an easy test. |

Here is the email I sent you.
“20. If you pull the shift console, then try to see if you can move the 1 and 2nd rods you encounter into a gear. That piece locks in the other rod when you shift. So, shift the first rod fore or aft, then try to shift the other rod. If it will shift, that part is missing. If it won’t, then that was someone’s spare that made it into your parts. ” |

The shift console is still off, but looking in I can only see one bronze shift fork. This is a modified side-shifter. Do I need to take off the bottom plate at the back end? Pic attached. No need to remove anything. Please re-read my instructions from this step and let me know what needs clarified. "shift the first rod fore or aft, then try to shift the other rod (next rod in). If it will shift, that part is missing. If it won’t, then that was someone’s spare that made it into your parts. " Ill bet you $100 that what you have is a spare from one of the parts boxes. The fork you see is on the rod I was talking about. Move the fork/slider fore or aft to lock that in a gear, then try to shift the other rod/fork/slider. If you can even budge the next rod/fork/slider then that piece is missing. |
