Do I have the wrong kit or the wrong wheel?

Doing a test fit I don't see how the leather can stretch that much to fit without damaging the cover.

This is the kit from Automotion, it is an Alan Gun manufactured kit.

You have a '74+ steering wheel with the fake leather wrap that is solid foam no stitching. Std. leather wrap will not fit over it.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) The leather wrap you purchased replaces the original leather wrap on a wheel.

I bought the same kit. You have to take off the old leather. I found the thread they provided was too small so I brought some black hemp instead, worked brilliant. PM me if you want some advice. Ah, I just noticed the comment about the foam.

Thanks, I see no option on their page for that. Shows filling all models 70 - 76 , I guess my options are to return it (and hope they refund the overpriced shipping charges) or cut the foam off and build up some thickness around the metal.

I used the AG kit also, fit fine (no double wrap)

Yours has the thick foam (with fake leather stitching) like mine?

I reached out to Alan Gun himself on FB last night so waiting to hear back from him.

No, don’t not cut the foam. I’ll send you the right wheel. PM me your address.

I used this, size M.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B018FM4X2K/r...;psc=1&th=1
Used the material to cover the fake leather steering wheel.
You have to trim it to fit and at the spokes you will need to stitch some material on the back side (from what you trimmed on front).
Make all the measurements on the inside diameter of the wheel so the material will stretch when you fit it over. Otherwise you'll have wrinkles on the inside.
I suggest you get 2 pieces, just because you might easily mess it up. If you go that way, PM I'll give you more details.

That looks like an overmolded (rubber simulated leather) steering wheel. I think that the leather covers are all made to go over the hard (solid) wheels.

Alan Gun contacted me and he will be sending me the correct kit, he said Automotion only carries one version of his kits, he will be sending me the correct version and is going to cover shipping for the new kit and the return. Now to paint this wheel. Thanks for all the help and info!

So the foam leather(fake) on my steering wheel means I don't have the correct steering wheel for my 73?

Mike - is Alan sending you one that will fit over the fake foam?

Mark - If Mike doesn't want that wheel I'll take it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) less to ship to MD too (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Yes, he is sending me the correct cover and I'll be sending this one back to him.
