As long as your heater tubes are in good shape, go for it. Spraying it inside the longs will only get paint on the outside of the heater tubes

I keep a couple of 2 1/2 gal water charged stainless steel fire extinguishers in the shop for this kind of thing. Fill with water, charge with compressed air and they are ready to go.
