Narrow or stock body fenders Car , 4 bolt real fuchs or 2liter wheels
Has 195/60r 15 on it now Netto touring front (still tread enough but are like 8 years old ) Continental touring rear ( tread is pretty low also old but in good shape) I beginning to realize a tire failure on these cars could be especially dangerous Cause lets face it a 914 gets driven harder then A toyota I dont want to roll the fender lips and the clearance with current tire size is already tight Budget pretty wide open since i want something reliable or high quality ? |

The only real "performance" tires are 205/50-15s. The rest are all "all season" compromise tires that, while said, are still 1000% better than 165 radials or period correct bias ply tires, but nothing to write home about if performance is the goal.
My -6 has 14" rims... and the only street performance tire is the Falken Azenis 615 blah blah in a 195/60-14. Choices are limited for a 50 year old car. The only reason 205/50-15s are still available is the Miata. |

The only reason 205/50-15s are still available is the Miata. This is why I brought this thread back to life Dave. I like the way the car looks with 15" rims and 195/65's are close to the original diameter, which is great for gearing, the speedo, and the proper amount of sidewall on and old car (IMO). I will also agree with George that 205's are too wide for stock rims and 205/50's have an almost 2" smaller diameter than 195/65's. I want a tires with an aggressive looking summer tread, and more grip than all-season tires have. I do a few AX days every year, but do not want to buy/bring/change a second set of rims with low profile HP tires. Yes I can and have on all-season tires, but don't see anything wrong with wanting more grip. While I will agree there are no DOT R-Spec tires in 195/65 I have found what I am calling "unicorn" 195/65 summer tires. The Dunlop 600 tires posted last year is one example - there are others! So I was wondering/hoping someone actually purchased a 195/65 summer tire that they can report on.... |
