Narrow or stock body fenders Car , 4 bolt real fuchs or 2liter wheels

Has 195/60r 15 on it now
Netto touring front (still tread enough but are like 8 years old )
Continental touring rear ( tread is pretty low also old but in good shape)

I beginning to realize a tire failure on these cars could be especially dangerous

Cause lets face it a 914 gets driven harder then
A toyota

I dont want to roll the fender lips and the clearance with current tire size is already tight

Budget pretty wide open since i want something reliable or high quality ?

Well....since I am going to be picking up my wheels from Weidman in the next week or two, I will begin looking for an appropriate tire for my Six. I had Weidman widen my deep sixes by 1" so they are now 15"x7" rims. They were widened on the back side so from the front the look 100% original for a deep six wheel. They are finished as factory too. I am in California so no snow and apparently not a lot of rain. Of course, I do not plan on driving in inclement weather, but other than that will drive the car regularly. I am thinking that a 215x65x15 would fit the rim well and look correct on the car. What do you all think? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) My bias is a nice looking, performance tire- I love Michelins and have their new 4S Sport on my Audi S3 and it is a terrific tire.

Oh, in case you are wondering, I widened the wheels because with the 3.2 I thought having a tiny bit more rubber on the rear would be worth it. I did all 4 so I could rotate them. I had to leave the spare a stock deep six so it would fit the collapsable tire and still fit the trunk vertically. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

^ This is the route I've been thinking about (I'm on Avon CR6ZZ 185/70s on deep sixes right now, and don't love the setup for a street car).

I think you will be rewarded with your 215/60 on 15x7 setup given your engine plans. That's the standard rear tire size for a 1984-1988 Carrera 3.2, at all four corners on a lighter car, and tires are better now than they were in the 1980s. And, with a strong 2.2, I am already thinking about wider tires—so you will probably want 205s or 215s. I too am partial to Michelin, but the 4S (running those on my 911) and A/S3 (which transformed my Abarth) aren't available in 914 sizing last I checked. In 215/60R15, I'd look at the P6000 N2 summer tires, and then the various Michelin offerings (though I think these are all passenger all-season tires).

I test fit a P6000 on a real 15x7R here (post #34/35): http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...39516&st=20

It "fit" under stock fenders, but not really. Came to the conclusion that I'd need to move a brake line, space the wheel a bit more, and/or pull the fender. It can definitely be done, but I chickened out and came to the conclusion I'll stick with 6s and 185/70, 195/65, 205/60, or 205/55. Maybe 215s are something down the road. YMMV.

Another option to consider, if the fenders will accept them: 225/50R15 Toyos on your 7s. Will look pretty Ginther, but that's no bad thing…

What don't you like about the CR6ZZ for street set-up?
