The outer casings on my heat exchangers have separated from the inner exhaust pipes and as such rattle. This will fail the m.o.t test that we have over here.

What I'd like to know is what is under these outer covers? Is there some kind of finned construction or bare naked pipe?

I'm not sure what the pipe is made of, looks to be some kind of cast but the outer case is steel so welding will be difficult.

They look to be standard.
