Hi all,

Happy Thanksgiving.

I'm a new 914-4 owner and am looking for help in deciding on a new set of tires for my 1973 2.0L. The car is pretty much stock but I hope to take it to an occasional AX but mostly drive it in the back canyons.

It won't be out in the rain, so I am not worried about hydroplaning or such.

I'm looking at Yoko Advan A048, Toyo Proxes R888R and Falken Azenis RT615K+

Does anyone have experience with these on their cars? Or any suggestions for any other brand/type of tire?

thanks.
Mitch

I use the triple 8's on a track day car....and a chump miata.....I can't compare to the other brands , but I am very impressed with the toyos , especially with a 200 thread wear rating

Thanks... the 200 wear is a positive aspect.

For street/ax, first check the rule book. Some of the sticky tires are a bit "too sticky" and may cause your car to be classed where it won't due well.

That said, I am on year two on a set of Falken Azenis 615s and they are a great tire. NOT noisy. Good sidewall and tread. Good predictable grip. Won my AX class the last 2 years as well with them vs a well driven 911T on RA1's

I prefer the RA-1s to R888s.

Hot "Street" AX tire is the Bridgestone RE-71R, but there are many others. I've ran Dunlop Star Specs on my fiesta for the past year and a half and love them. Not a great rain tire but they do good enough. Sticky sticky sticky.

I just got a set of the BFG rivals, they have some good sizes for 15" wheels too. So far I love them, might not be the best for setting the fastest lap (but close), but they have a 200 tw rating so I hear they last a long time.

These guys had good results-

Just got back from a track day, I was nervous to slide off the track (wasn't pushing too hard) but the BFG Rival seemed to hook good. I got 1.2g in some of the turns. I will say on the street when they were colder they could break loose a little easier than I expected.

Try a DOT-R Tire! When my Z214's are cold it's pretty exciting...
