the problem is not really the wiring , you can always make something,, the issue here is how are the cops in your area,, because if they are so uptight like here i got stop with my 2000 S4 who has the HID as OEM and they stop me and asked me questions,, are those original,, can i see under the hood,, bla bla bla,, i told him" " you are really busy tonight "" he said he has been instructed to check for those because now every ricer have them and as you know they are illegal unless OEM,, so it is up to you,,,,

i don't understand the logic surrounding putting in these type of lights and jumping through all the hoops with the wiring and relays (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif) . ditch the sealed beams and step up to the hellas and/or put in one of craigs fog kits. do you do alot of night time rally driving? jeanne's very understanding with my parts purchases and NEVER busts my chops. a credit card bill for $400 worth of headlights would change things in a hurry. "what was wrong with the ones you had in the car kevin?". "i have Lexus envy dear". (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif)

Hids only draw a few amps per lamp continuous. They are 35W lamps at 12V. They draw ~8A for the first 10+ seconds.

If the Silverstar has a yellow cast, I'd check the voltage at the bulb. I would also be inclined to run a new set of wires and relays for the bulbs anyway. That would take the strain off of the switch. Lots of voltage drops in the old cars that can be fixed to some degree. The voltage and hence the current has a lot to do with the color temperature of the bulbs.

But just think, while you're in there you could... (alright, alright I'll leave you alone) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) I'm betting it would toast the switch but I don't know too much about those things. So just in case the Cap'n's reading this I'd better disqualify myself from any further advice. I do like the CCLINMYLIGHTSROCK idea though. Low buckage wattage. |

huge, huge market for stolen HID*s, big problem for the new Porsche, BMW and others right now....of course the cars they are going into are the Honda's and VW/Audi (GTIs and early A4) ricer type cars.... figure the 914 is 30 years old, the HIDs are just a few years old and darn expensive, so, you might be the 1st one to do it...others have talked about it, but its one of those things that if it was that cheap and easy, everyone would be doing it..... I don't know that brand well enough, I'd lean towards the Sylvania HIDs, but those start in the $500 range.... *it's so bad that some places are issuing this warning: In order to help prevent inappropriate use of HID system components, Proof of Purchase may be requested when ordering spare parts. |

I like the idea of the hid systems but its just too expensive at the moment.
