I washed and scrubbed it down at the car wash. I have been gone for almost 2 weeks... and I didnt have anyone working on it while I was gone.
Other parts of the project like the 915 for WEVO conversion and 930 suspension are all in my possession and disassembled. B |

I just canned my POC Thunderhill trip.. so we will strip the car this Sunday (and document everything) so I can deliver to the acid dipping place next Monday or Tuesday. I secured some help this evening... so it will go very quickly.

Britain and Rob Ways stripped the chassis down to damn near nothing in 8 hours (with my guidence..if you call yelling at Britain.."guidance"..LOL
I'll finish pulling the tar paper and seam sealer a couple of evenings this week. I hope to drop it off at the acid dip place this week. B |

what would be a good cost for a caustic-dip type stripping if the car was dissasembled but tar paper was still there?

They wont do it. They dont want the tar paper in the "bath". It takes me one hour to remove all the tar paper. It takes another 1/2 hour to remove the "glue" left behind... but I wont worry about the glue on this one.
The place close to me charges 850$ to dip the bare tubs/doors/decklids. B |

By tar paper I mean sound proofing material on the floors etc... is this what you mean?
Does this take you 1hr to remove? How do you do it? Putty knife? Dry Ice? What is done with the wiring harness, how would one remove it, deosnt it go through the tunnel? Is the car typically sprayed with a primer directly after the stripping or how long do you have before it starts to surface rust? |

yes. tar paper is the sound deadening on the floors.
I use a 12$ heat gun from Harbor Freight and a 3 inch puddy knife. Some people use propane.. but I dont like having an open flame in the passenger compartment if I dont have too. The key is to make a few passes over the area with the heat gun prior to digging in. Then lead the puddy knife with the heat gun. There is a perfect ratio of heat to tar. If you get it to hot..its gooey. Just right and it peels up in small sheets. I pull the wiring out of the little trough that it sits in to do the tunnel. It has enough slack in it that you can move it to the side and do sections. In my area.. during the summer.. you have several days before the chassis begins to rust. Only hand prints will rust on bare metal. So... i wont primer it before the body shop gets it. I will weld in all the stiffening I'm going to do to it before I ship to the painter. I will also weld up all holes and fix whatever rust needs to be done. B |

It removes materials that had been applied using solvents. Specifically paints and primers.
