i'm not finding any kind of torque value for the 8mm nut to the head. something like 14.5 lbs.?

Tom Wilson's book "how to rebuild your VW air cooled engine" says

14 lbs/ft

Haynes manual said nothing I could find.

I have heard 14#'s also. I usually just snug them down by hand and check them every few months or so...
