If the tranny is out of the car, how to you torque down the bolt that holds the output flanges (you know, where the CV goes)?
I am getting ready to start open heart surgery on my trans, and plan on replacing all the seals while I am in there. But when you try to torque down on the flange bolt, the opposite flange rotates..... Do you have to put it in gear or something? Must be a trick or I am missing something obvious.... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif) thanks in advance. |

Put two bolts in the oppostite flange....put a bar in them that contacts the ground to prevent rotation....put in a gear......torque the other side.

Doesn't that only work if you have it bolted to an engine to keep the input shaft from turning? |

Just shove a screwdriver, rod, punch, or long bolt through one of the holes and prop it against a rib on the case. It's under 30 ft/lbs ........................ The Cap'n

That's what I do, a long round phillip's screwdriver is what I usually have handy. |
