I recently purchased a bundle of 914 parts that were off of an abandoned project from several years ago. One of the parts is a Leistritz brand muffler and appears to be NOS. It still has some of the part labels attached. Does anyone know if this was an OE muffler or an aftermarket part? The stamping on the housing shows that it was made in W. Germany.

After some further investigation, looks like this is an OE manufacturer muffler. Stamping on the part is 07 85.

After some further investigation, looks like this is an OE manufacturer muffler. Stamping on the part is 07 85. Anthony, Yes, the Leistritz was OEM & it was supposed to be a better flowing "sport" muffler for the 73-74 2.0L /4's & this being a 7-85 mfgr date, just means that it was a later replacement part & certainly looks NOS. If you're not going to use it on your 914, then member Cal on here - Jeff, was looking to buy one to put on his resto. I have one which I bought for my 73 2L's resto a couple of years back from another member on here. My 73 had a Leistritz on it originally when I bought it in 12/75, but when it went, Midas replaced it with an OEM Bischoff for me in 1980, but I frankly didn't notice much of a performance difference. Bischoff was the other main OEM maker of 2L Banana mufflers, & Dansk handles most/all of the classic Porsche muffler & exhaust products today as their current OEM. Cheers!
