Mike,

You absolutely, positively have to say which 2.4, otherwise, you're diluting the message !

2.4T = Hmmm this is interesting, torquey and revs!

2.4E = wowsa these things are rare, exciting, rev at the blink of an eye, and streetable !

2.4 S = Ohmmeegod, a hot rod for the street, needs all kinds of coolers, super high performance everything, barely streetable, will make one's blood turn over twice when it's busting through 7,000 rpm, on its way to redline !

Michel
914/6 2.2E MFI

p.s. putting MFI in a 914 is not for the faint of heart.

Hmmm... I've got a 2.4S down in the garage. But it's not in good shape -- here's the deal:

The PO missed a 3-4 upshift at high revs, accidentally putting the thing in 2nd. By the time he realized the mistake, all 6 exhaust valves were bent. I was given the engine in a dissassembled state. It's all intact, except for 1 cylinder, which is cracked from apparently being dropped. Also, it's missing the MFI stuff.

So. What to do? Please tell me your suggestions.

1. Obviously, I'll need to replace the cracked cylinder & all 6 bent valves (sodium filled, ~$120/each, ouch).
2. Should I run the S-cam or go with a milder grind?
3. Stock pistons or high-comp JEs? (Sorry, for those of you who will suggest a set of Euro-spec Mahles, I'm not that wealthy.)
4. Get an MFI setup, run carbs, or modify MFI throttle bodies to run proper electronic fuel injectors?

Thanks.

Remember, to run carbs on a MFI motor, you have to weld the MFI port.

Weld up the MFI ports? What about machining a plug?

A plug in the injector ports will work. Keep the S cams they don't hurt streetability on a 2.4 as much as on the smaller displacement engines. IMHO, going to an aftermarket fuel injection is the best option, unless you have can get absolutely everything for the MFI.
