there is no way this car has 53,000 miles on it unless it was the most abused 914-6 in history. Although a very nice looking car (please do not get me wrong) this car has been extensively restored, and at one time completely taken apart. However the car is well worth the asking price, if it shows as well in person as it does in the hard to see, many pictures. Here are some of the things I noticed in no particular order (and I am not commenting about things like the master cylinder reservoir cover!)
no emergency brake handle rest black rubber cover the windshield has been replaced has a funky rear view mirror installed no screw drivers in the tool kit the upper dash vinyl has been replaced and is over padded the threshold plates have black instead of white rivets installed the fuel lines coming up through the engine shelf are cloth instead of clear plastic the engine stickers are incorrectly installed and some not original the headlight box serial number plate has been previously been damaged for some reason, maybe previous wreck?? Hard to tell the rear trunk floor has been worked and the caulking at the rear panel is not correct, maybe previous damage the Karmann plate is a reproduction one the car has been extensively repainted the blaupunkt radio has a late model bezel instead of the original chrome one the floor boards have had the original sound deadening removed and funky new sound deadening improperly installed (the original looking one piece parts are readily available) why did they not paint the floor pan bottom green when they did all of the body work? the center seat cushion is from a later model car (the vinyl grain does not match) the fog light bezel is from a 73-76 car the front shock towers have been recoated with black but should have the top nut and washer black as well Why was the rack and pinion replaced on a 53000 mile car? I can certainly see rebuilding the carbs and adding the carrera tensioner kit but it seems like there was just too much engine and transmission resealing and other work on the power plant for, again, such a low mile car. |
