Randee says he can retool these for porsche 5 lug.

6x15 aluminum centers with a steel barrel.

I'm thinking about it.
anyone else like them?

Not really my style, kind of remind me of '70s Cragars. The important thing is if you like them....they're for sure unique! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beer.gif)

totally different aesthetic.

Different, sure, but not totally different. The five-lug Porsche spacing would move that ring in towards the middle of the wheel, making it look even more like the Cragar. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif)

it would lose that cool halo element for sure, but the spokes are machined flat on the faces and not round and obese looking like the cragars. The muscle car rims always look to me like they were molded with puff pastry. these rims, in person, have a longer thinner straight spoke.

he does them with the centers powder coated black and the faces of the spokes machined off to raw aluminum. it then has an aircraft quality to it which looks awesome in my opinion.

I wouldn't touch a set of cragars.
These I love.

go figure. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif)

I am also a fan of the ride of a steel barrel.
Alloys are superior for performance, but there's nothing like steel for a great ride.

same with bicycle frames.

umm, that's a new one on me!

I don't think your tires care if they are mounted on steel or alloy rims.

Randar wheels are ok for Bugs, but I'm not going to be trading my forged Fuchs for cast wheels.

seems a lot of bother for a 6" wheel, but it's your car, do what you like...

I don't think your tires care if they are mounted on steel or alloy rims.

Steel, being heavier, causes the tire to absorb more of the impact, and also will move less from the impact so the car reacts less allowing for a smoother feeling ride.

Steel bike frames flex a bit more than AL thus taking a part of the jarring from rough trails.

At least that's how I understood it.

Those wheels are based on a vintage Empi design.
Your comparison dont make no sense to me.

i like the look on the bug (the rims look like they cost more than the car, hahaha)

not too sure how they'd do on a 914.....

how much would they be???

have accounted for the cost of the 5 lug conversion??

He told me my set would be pricey to account for the retooling. after that it would probably be about the same as his standard wheel. I would think, not to sure how he would do it.

the standard wheels are about 850 a set.
