> 2.7 - 6 Oil change - How much in the sump?

I changed the oil in the 914-6 2.7 conversion last night.

- 5+ quarts drained from the engine
- 12+ quarts drained from the oil tank (Mark Stephens tank)

I was told that only about 2 quarts should be in the engine sump. Is 5 quarts too much? Is this an indication of a problem? I do have a front oil cooler with no thermostat.

This is only my second oil change on a Porsche 6 cylinder engine. I don't remember that much oil draining out of the engine.

Thanks

Eddie

If I let mine sit long enuff (bout a month in my case), most all of it comes out the sump. Oil drains back thru the scavenge side of the pump. If the oil tank scavenge line fitting is above the sump as with the stock tank, all of it will eventually drain back. Never rev a cold engine till the pump has a chance to clear the sump. If it's been sitting for a month, I crank the motor over on the starter for 30- 40 sec, then keep it under 3K for a minute or so.

Sounds like the situation.

Last time I changed the oil, the engine had recently been run. Only about two quarts came out of the sump.

This time, the engine had not been run for a couple of days ... and 5 quarts came out of the sump.

Thanks JP. I'm anxious to see your car after the big changes.

JP,

Wish I could make it down to PIR. I have to attend a big family gathering in Spokane this weekend.

Are you planning any Seattle area AX events this summer?

How are the new sticky tires? I just checked out a friend's new Hoosier slicks for his Porsche 951 PCA2 racer. They are so soft and sticky when COLD!

Good luck Sunday!

I was up at Bremerton last Saturday.....but you didn't miss much. We stunk up the joint again. There's an SCCA AX in Packwood July 9 & 10 that I plan to make...that's as close as I'll get for a while.
