So I took a chance on putting on 16X7 on a stock body, not going to work. Put the wheel on with no tire and it was easy to see I had a problem. Brake clearance was not a issue but the fender sure was. Stock 4 Fuchs has a 45 ET and the 16x6 Boxster has a 50ET. 23.3 offset was going the wrong way. Looks like I would need a 7R wheel but they are 15".

Yea, whomever designed that portion of the car really didn't want 914 owners to have wide tires without painful or expensive modifications.
Fenders look too nice and original to pull or tweak. PO of my car said rear fenders are stock however I think they've been pulled a little. I too have some 23mm 15x7s that are going on the car. Currently with 7's but they are 53mm offset with spacers. I really wish I hadn't given away the extra set of rear trailing arms I had since I'd like to try the Rich Johnson method of moving the hub inboard 20mm or so. |

Is the suspension 'unsprung' in the pictures? Does anyone know if the suspension tilts inward on compression?
It certainly looks like the wheel will not fit in the pictures. |

That will let you run 205s and in some cases slightly wider tires on a narrow body. |

Is the suspension 'unsprung' in the pictures? Does anyone know if the suspension tilts inward on compression? It will tilt inward some on compression, especially with a bunch of negative camber. I am pretty sure it won't be nearly enough to let you put a tire on that rim and have it fit. --DD |

I don't know why everybody tries so hard to fit 7's on a stock body car. 6's fit great without any mods and fit the same size tire as a 7. If you feel like you need more grip, get a higher performance tire. Very few of us are daily driving our cars. Most of them are sunny day, moderate weather drivers. I bet 99% of 914's age out their tires long before they wear them out. If you really want to be covered, get a second set of wheels and tires for the wetter, colder months.

I currently have 16x6 boxsters on all 4 corners. I am using them as rollers. I know the 16x7 boxsters will work on the rears. Might just go that route

I am also running the Boxster wheels. 6" in front and 7" in the rear. I wish there were other options but I just don't think it is going to happen on my car especially with Boxster calipers. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) Exactly Still plenty of excellent tires in 205/55/16 Plenty of tread width and correct diameter for no speedo issues. |

I have 7"x16" Fuchs on my car with 205/45 /16R tires. These fit easily in the front with a 1/4' spacer, and the rears require "rolling" the inner fender edges (with baseball bat or equivalent between the tire with the car raised to get the bat in between the tire and the fender) and then gently pulling the fender out a little by hand. |

Have them on my car with a little bit of fender pull ,only one side rubbed and that was over large bumps,I do however have no rear trailing shims, they aren't cambered out too much ,have 205/16 rubber which is plenty on the road. They work for many folks on here. |
