Picked up our 914-6 GT Replica today after an engine rebuild ,can’t get the car into 1st or reverse with out crunching ,the rest of the gears are really really stif to get into the remaining gears,I bought the linkage set up that was recommended for the car at the same time ,does anyone else have a renn shifter on there 6 cylinder and does it run smooth or do you have problems ,please tell me there’s an easy fix,it’s so frustrating
Thanks Brian |

I have a Rennshift on my car and it works just as advertised.
The key is to take your time when you adjust the linkage to get it just right. That has nothing to do with the Rennshift though, it's the same for the stock shifter. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) |

Brian, it'll be an easy fix. It just needs adjusting as the linkage has been disturbed during the engine refit.

Also make sure the clutch cable is adjusted properly.

Have fooled with it incrementaly and systematically for four hours and a fix to one area causes a new problem. I need an intervention before I send it sailing into the woods. |

It took me 5 minutes to set mine. Make sure there isn’t anything rubbing or binding in the tunnel (or anywhere else) and all the clamps and set screws are tight. I set both the shifter and trans into 2nd gear and tightened the bolt. Mine was a little difficult to get into gear, I adjusted some slack out of the clutch cable and then it moved easily. A rennshifter just duplicates the stock shifter but has no slop at the shifter. It really can’t make the shifting worse. Every thread I’ve read that mentions an issue with a rennshifter turns out to be something else. Loose cone screw, interference in the tunnel, ect. |

Also make sure the clutch cable is adjusted properly. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) my car had that issue once, clutch adjustment made it good as new. Need to do the same thing now on the 911 |

It probably IS something else since shifting has never been effortless. Will have to go through the whole system. Thanks |

Try a couple turns on the clutch cable nut at the pulley. It made a huge difference on my car.

It was the clutch that needed adjusting. An easy fix for expert Kevin Clarke, within an hour. Its now as sweet and silent as anything. Incredible. Now the fun can start !!!

Or it might be the clutch. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
