Put on a bit of IMSA livery to register with SVRA. Had a great time at Roebling Road piloting Kermee to 1st place in all three practice races against a field of 18 or so wide variety of marques. Had a rear view mirror full of a couple of BMW's, a Lotus Super Seven, a Nascar Pontiac and even an Ariel Atom, but Kermee really wanted to stay in front so I went along for the ride! Looking to do more Vintage Racing this year...

I will have to look for dates on these races, I am 30 minutes from Robeling road and would love to come over and see you guys run some laps!

It's DPv which is "under 2700" along with Mike Spraggins & Paul Behofist....seems like the right place. I see Fred Pfeiffer is CPh and Lenehan is CPv, both "under 3500"....
I don't really know the finer points of the groups actually....but see that the "v" is for 1972 and earlier and the "h" is '73 on and the cut between "C" is for up to 3500cc and "D" is up to 2700.....

Unfortunately I don’t have a vintage legal car...that’s one of the things that once I have space and the new business makes some money I’m hoping to build.

Those are the VRG classes and seems like you would fit in the C group being under 3500.....shoot the organizer an inquiry. Also, I think SVRA would put you in GTO class--that's where they're putting me in Group 12 since I'm over 2.5 liters....gonna be fun running with the big dogs....

So I don’t understand how the engine is legal. According to the rules:

4.2.2. Displacement: The engine must be the original displacement available in that model, with maximum overbore of 0.040” (bores up to 3.5”) or 0.060” (bores over 3.5”). Stroke may not be altered from original.

Since only a 2.0 was available, how is a 2.7 legal? Or a 3.2?

I can’t race Huey anyway, no fuel cell.... but I’m just curious how anything over a 2.0is legal?

Bob---I'm under SVRA's rules for IMSA prepared cars under IMSA rules up to 1984....SVRA has Group 10 GTO that your car will fit in IMO.

I've tried to fit into SVRA rules and they tell me no. Don't know why, but I keep hearing No... Porsche never fitted a 3.2 FI engine in a 914, so it's not IMSA rule legal either I guess.

Huey is honestly not a track race car - its heavy, street legal, and has carpeting. I have no real reason to put a fuel cell in it for street use since we need the front trunk space for weekend trips we use it for, and the fuel cell I sell that fits in the tank space is more money than I want to spend for a street car. And with a bone stock 3.2 engine only making about 220 hp, its not even close to being competitive for GTO class - or any race class for that matter. Plus I have 993 brakes on it - again, not legal for anything.

And they CERTAINLY will never allow Papa Smurf...

One day i'll build a vintage legal car. For now, we use Huey for hillclimbs, autocrosses, and street weekend trips.

Take the wing off papa smurf They will let you race There is one car I know that has a 3.2. And possibly a few more(I have been a Porsche mechanic since 1968 and can sort of tell by the sound of their engines) Iam sure they will be happy to have you. SVRA is a different story.

Typically, Papa Smurf would be no problem in VRG without the wing.....but I guess that's what makes Papa the Papa! Engine size and brakes not meeting true vintage...they move you up in class(es). So yea, big engines are out there, so are big brakes.
