Way back when in DesMonines When we did the cut to the trans. Rick and I noticed the when you spun one of the axel output flanges the other went the same way and you could not hold it. So Im out in the dog house today and get the bright idea to take the side cover off and see if it is posi or welded. This is where the dumb ass comes in... I grab the impact so I can zip the bolts off and forgot to put in in reverse. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/slap.gif) You know the bolt that holds the flange on (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/headbang.gif) it snaps off real quick (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/spank.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/alfred.gif)

If it's a 901, the R&P should be 7:31 - 4.42 A V8 has no problem pulling all the gears, even if the gears have been swapped out to tall ratios, swap and flip 3 and 4, H gear for 5. If it's an AX or track car the close ratios might be OK, but taller gears will cut down on your shifting. My 327 daily driver with a tall gear 901 and 205/50/15 turns 2750 RPM @ 70 MPH, I'm working on getting the engine speed even farther down i.e. taller tires.

I spun the trans and one turn of the ring took just short of 5 turns on the pinion. Remember all this was done in the early 70s so who knows what gears are inside this thing? |
