Ok so I know we have a zillion threads about tires, sizes rims etc but this has a slight variation to it

as some may already know, my car is in shop getting rest of body work done had rear fenders massaged and stretched a bit and still my 7" rims with 205/55 are very tight - so I am wanting the fairly wide tread but not out that far, I have a set of 16"x6" on front and those are fine, and I have another set of 6" fuchs to put on the rear - 16"x6" on rear have lots of room with the 205, and so I am considering trying the 225/50 16 on the 6" rims on rear -

My question is- has anyone on a narrow body car run Falkin RT615K , 225/50 on a 6" rim on the rear and how did they fit, and what about the front??

if I take the Bridgestone Potenza Ar-11 off(now discontinued) and sell, my problem will be Falkin does not make a 205/55 or 205/50 in this tire, - so if the 225/50 don't fit on the front(I think they will, my7" rims fit no rubbing with spacer, 6''same)- I would have to run a different tire or brand- so some uncharted waters here -

- Narrow body with some slight fender stretching and lip-o section(pun intended) running 6" Fuchs 16 rims and a 225 tire - rear and front- any experience with this set up ??

Thanks,

Phil

OR to keep the 7" I would have to go narrower like 195/55 or a different tire with less over hang

225/50-16 will look odd on a 6" wide rim. The cross section of a 225/50-16 is over 9" and the thread is about 7.5" so it will bulge out from the rim. The low profile will make the bulging effect even more pronounced.

A 225/50-16 tire is really designed for a 7" to 8" wide rim width.

makes sense, that rules those tires out as the don't have them in a 205 or 215 width, unless its a 45, and that is 23.6" and too small

I agree. Too wide for a 6 inch rim. It will balloon out. Look funny. And more importantly it will decrease handling a n the written my size of rim.

Plus your tire guy will hate you

so how about 215/50?? on the 6" rim, .4" wider than the 205, but .5"narrower than the 225.

Put the 225 on a 7 or 8 day much rim

If you want to pick mprove handling. Buy grippy tires

A race tire or something dual purpose like an RA1 will provide better handling than a 225 tire even in A smaller size

225/50 on a 6" rim on the rear and how did they fit, and what about the front??

I'm running 225/50 on 7" rims on all 4 corners and the tires already "bulge" quite a bit, it would be even worse on a 6" rim.

I personally wouldn't put 225s on anything smaller than a 7" ...

Read what the manufacturer says. Each tire is a little different. You don't want to undersize the rim as the tire will bulge (like others have said) and you will have terrible handling.

I would consider the 215 45 16 BFG Rival S on a 7" rim. I run the 15" version and they are a very grippy, good wearing street tire.

exactly what I was thinking. 914's don't wear out their tires quickly. A 205 tire is a lot of tire for our cars. If the suspension is set up half decent, you should have a fun car.

agreed, my 205/55 Potenza's on the 7" rear rims really grab, I can go into and thru a corner as fast as any other car we ran with on the twisties up in the hills at the Okteenerfest etc. I was advised that the Falkin were similar but they don't make a 205 or a 215 unless I go with a 215/45 and that is a bit small - but I will have to research some other tire brands that have that size in a 200 hardness rating. Seems like a 215 might work on a 6, I suppose a 6.5 would be perfect but we don't have that in a fuchs rim

I fit a 225/50-16 on a 7" wheel (stock Boxster) under rolled rear fenders just fine with a 'sport' alignment (Thanks Darling (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)) A 15mm spacer brings it out to Fuchs spec.

I think you need to check your rear camber since nothing fits right.

FYI- My Boxster front is a 205/55-16 on 6" and Porsche does a 205 on their 17x7. 205 is max on a 6".

did some more research on tire options, comparing actual treat width and height, etc on the 6 and 7 rims- I like the look of th 7" rims and a slightly narrower tire, say a 195/55 would give me about a 1/3" more clearance on outside and inside both, but actual tread width is just under 8", which is plenty for a narrow body 914 , and it also makes the diameter 24.3 rather than 24.9" on the 205/55 on now- would be closer to stock for speedometer accuracy-

2 choices for ultra high performance tire in this size is a Toyo Proxy($400 for 5 tires)
and Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 , $373 for 5 (this is on Tirerack.com)

Wondering if anyone has used either of these for their 914 for the occasional DE and spirited driving- I do want a sticky tire so 300 is what I am shooting for on wear rating, the Potenza I have that I may sell are a 200 or so, no choices in that rating here , not in this size or really aymore in the 205/50 or 205/55's

A 195x55 on a 7” rim will look sort of ricey on a 914.

My 195 tires are clearly labeled not for use on 5.5" wheels. 205s I ran on 4 lug fuch wheels for awhile had a terrible sidewall bulge that dramatically reduced clearance. They felt unstable in corners too. YRMV.

my next best option is to scratch the 7" , go back to 6" all around and go with a 205/50 or 55(55 too tall really for a 914) - 205/50 16 on a 6" rim give an 8" tread width so its not like I will loose any traction potential, and I don't have to worry about rub - in fact I can put 1/2" spacers on and still have a finger width of space- might just be the best way to go - just cant seem to sell the 7" rims - they are awesome restored no rash rims!!!

not sure the 195 would look more "ricey" than a 205/50, the 195/55 on a 16x6" rim is slightly taller, so if you are referring to the low profile , its not even a 1/2" smaller than a205/55, wish I could see it on the car before having to buy - I know how my 205/55 look as I have them on 6" front and 7" rear and its really not noticible that you are seeing same tire on a wider rim. ,

I can tellyou that when I had 4 lug and had 195/55 15 on a 15" empi it looked very ricey!!

I assume you mean 6 x 16s.

Yes, I think 205/50 would be best on the 6" rims.

IMHO.

Running 205/50ZR16 on 7" wheels on the front. But you could run them on 7" all the way around. I think they fit just right on these 7"s

BF Goodrich g-Force Comp-2 A/S

These > https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...S&tab=Specs

400 tread wear. So they may be to hard for your purpose. but worth a look.

my rears are 225/50ZR16 on the 8" Fuchs.

I could probable get a picture if your interested.

your car is narrow of flared? 7" rims with the 205/55 16 in rear are tight eve after some metal work on rear flares to give more room- on my narrow car- other option is to get a bit more - camber im not sure it that will gain 1/4" more space or not.
