That is a challenge. Mine has no reflector, but the hole was welded shut by the PO.it does look clean, but I don’t trust the electric solenoid.

We make the rear update kits with electric release, but Mark should be making the manual release

I think 914rubber has them or was making them at one time.

With the solenoid some would drill a small hole with a grommet in the trunk floor and run an emergency pull wire under the car.

These can be made. and I think with existing parts.

I had one member contact me about this.
I would think a cable could be routed along the wiring for the tail lights and wind up with a base and pull discretely mounted on the back side of the trunk. The only problem is I do not have this so I can't really work the problems out.

Would love to work with someone to prototype and document the install. I know others have bought these and done so, but it would be less expensive to have a "kit".

Not sure of the exact meaning of discretely mounted on the back side of the trunk.
Are you referencing inside the passenger compartment or the engine compartment?

If it would be possible to locate the pull handle near the pull for engine lid, I would be interested in a kit. Maybe start a GB post to check interest.

I will run the cable through the floor to augment by electric solenoid, thanks

These could really be mounted anywhere you want. I can make a bolt that is machined through for the bade like I did with the GT headlight release. It can be backed by a large washer and would easily make this work.

I think that the electrical release issues I have heard of in the past were more of a ground not making good contact, so this was a if all else fails option that required no electricity.

Sign me up, put the pieces together and send me a paypal. I will piece it together. I think the electric solenoids if they are set up correctly should be pretty reliable, but it is nice to have an insurance policy. I will replace the solenoid with the SPAL unit Steve described.

Hi, I'm resurrecting this thread to see if there is a kit solution out there now. I'm looking for a rear trunk release kit asap.

Thanks, Luke.

I drove my 914 for the first time in a while today. I left the roof in the apartment parking garage because my rear trunk hasn't opened for a year or so.

Looks cool with the rear reflector though.

I have the electric solenoid I also have a new rubber and I found the release works as long as someone lightly pushes down on the trunk lid. Of corse most of the time I drive alone.
