I've noticed that every now and then the board seems to go down. It'll be good to have a new server! Thanks for everything you do Andy. It's much appreciated!

I'm just ribbing you a bit. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif)

I've been here almost a year I think. So guess I missed that. Was it a performance issue on the server itself, or.. ?

Not trying to sell you on the virtues of linux, but "usually", it is better at allocating and releasing memory. Windows is certainly getting better with the newer versions. What windows flavor are you looking at?

I had a eval of 2003 .NET.....it was pretty cool i must admit, but I'm using Windows 2000 Advanced Server for my file server needs. i like having appletalk compatability in win2000 too.

i use debian on my ppro system
but i also like windows 2000 stuff....been a while since i messed with it, i had to re-teach myself how to create a domain and create roming profiles and stuff..

Now let's be fair Andy. I'm as impartial as a unix admin can get (I like to think), but the server's problem wasn't the Linux OS. It was a slow old Pentium 450 PC that couldn't handle the load, not the OS.

just like the current problems are not windooze problems but rather hardware problems with the box itself.
