This was removed from the 1971 donor which has a side shifter, would that make it for side shifter cars?

Yes, that part is what makes it a side-shifter.
A '71 would have had a tail-shifter to begin with, but it could have been converted to side-shift (using this and a bunch of other parts).. or a side-shifter tranny may have been swapped in along the way. |
