As many of you have been aware, George decided to make the roll bar pads we have been working on for some time. I have to admit, dimensionally and for fit it works. Yes many do need these.
The only issue we had with this piece is the finish. It is more of a spatter texture, that and the gloss level is more flat. Overall a goo piece for a daily driver. So after some discussion we opted to bring in 10 and provide a daily driver quality part. We will also be continuing to make the concurs piece. The agreement is that we will not undersell AA in price. We will match any sales. Currently retail is $250. We will also make our version available to AA with the same understanding. To best describe the difference -
at 15 ft you can see the gloss and sheen is flat. Upon closer inspection you can see the spatter texture instead of the grained testure Attached thumbnail(s) |

Now there is something you don't see too often! Kudos to both of you, we need as many people/businesses supporting our little cars as possible. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) |

Looks like spray on bed liner (IMG:style_emoticons/default/barf.gif) That's a pretty big mistake.

George calls it “perfect” and “spot on” in his for sale thread. Maybe, but I still think this is a wise move for everyone. Thanks Mark and George |

Mark,
As long as your giving us a product review can you comment on outer material? Is it the same as the product you used for the dash or more ridged like the original part? I understand the appearance is not the same as the original part but I am asking about materials used. |

The material is a fairly hard plastic, it has some give, but not the same material we will be using. I did try wrapping it. There was an option for a leatherette on the 73 “S” model. Unfortunately for me the material wouldn’t bond with out more aggressive solvents.
I will be using the same material we use on the dash. Again, not putting the AA dash down, it is a solution for a daily driver, and I am stocking them. Just want to be as through as I can be on the description. |

I think I have to second or third on the list for the one you’re making Mark. I’ll continue to wait... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I will have to agree with Mark and everyone that this is a good option for all 914 owners especially for something that was unattainable for so long.
Doesn't matter if your 914 Rubber or AA it takes a huge commitment in time and money to get these types of products to the market. So even if the finish is not exact on the AA version it is better than what I have on my car at this point. A different texture verses missing chunks and many cracks seems like a minor issue. I am a customer of 914 Rubber and AA and I have an understanding of what it takes to get these products developed and made. In the end I want the best quality and closest to original as possible so we will see what the end result is and make the call. Well done guys! |

So much effort to re manufacture a part like this and to miss on the appropriate grain is a big disappointment. Will be anxious to see the improved version with the correct grain.
It reminds me of all the Vintage VW parts out there, some clearly not as good as others. |

We thought there could be a way top help each other, yes it's not perfect, but it does fit, and would look better than a cracked up or missing one. The difference is what we are going through. This bumper is 85% correct ( thing mid B and it did have a significant cost / effort), but to get from 85 to 100 it's an exponential curve of cost and time. This is one of the things that I struggle with.

I do applaud Mark for making a deal with George to make it available to the market but I think it sucks that George is dishonest about the part looking the same as the original. If someone overseas buys the part expecting to get a perfect match they will be stuck with it since return shipping will probable come close to the cost of the part. |

Unfortunately some of that is marketing. My wife is in marketing and sometimes things are presented in the best light possible. But I will say if you are going to state in the description "we have now developed perfect ones." You have to expect others to have different opinions. As that is a very strong statement. Maybe better stated would be developed the most perfect ones currently available. Doesn't have the same appeal. I guess that is why I am a scientist and not in marketing. |

"Perfect fit with modern pebble texture" would work for me. Some might even prefer the texture but a heads up that it is different would be good.
I'm also a scientist with a wife with a marketing background. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |
