F1 test driver Marc Gene took a 2003 chassis (Schumacher) v10 around Road Atlanta at speed - just posted yesterday. Average speed 149.9 mph and a new track record of 1 minute and 1 second. Allot of us who call RA our home track have wondered what was possible in the past - finally we know for certain. Enjoy.

That braking point at the end of the back straight is incredible!!!
And it looks so effortlessly routine! Wow |

Tony - Just curious, what's your best lap time in the 914, in your sports racer? What times are other fast cars doing at RA?
Years ago, I was into motorcycle track days and my eye opener was when I saw the AMA SuperBikes at Sears Point. Versus my times, I'd have been lapped every 3 laps...! |

Chris: By comparison...very slow! Define "other fast cars"...the F1 car would lap me every 3 laps or so (as well)! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Awesome! Thx for posting Tony.
MS in his prime in qualifying setup probably find another 3-4 seconds. |

According to Wikipedia, the official track record was 1:06.242, Stephen Sarrazin, Peugeot LMP1, 2008. I was there for the Petit LeMans that year.

Who knows but it is hard to believe that much time is left on a lap that is already run at full throttle, mostly. The braking points were deep as well...I'd like to see what Hamilton could do in a current wide body chassis. What a treat to even see this in action at this level.
I was just watching it again...for anyone who has driven RA this lap is breathtaking! His speed and transition to T1 is STUPID! A 991 GT3R would be off throttle a good 150 feet prior to the end of the concrete pit wall. Amazing commitment and technology on display! T Awesome! Thx for posting Tony. MS in his prime in qualifying setup probably find another 3-4 seconds. |

I can’t imagine what it would have been like before they installed the chicane in the main straight before the bridge! Very exciting video!

That dip on the back straight used to be called the "gravity cavity". The chicane you mentioned (turns 10a/10b) is much harder on the cars and adds about 8-10 seconds to a lap.
