Finally made the brackets and installed the stock fog lamps, but I blew two 16 amp fuse blows when I turn on the lamps.

I checked the lamps with a 12v battery out side the car and also checked to make sure that I had 12 volts into the fog lamp harness in the trunk everything checked out.

Is it possible that the bulbs are drawing too much current? Is it safe to measure the current at the fuse block w/o the fuse using a DVM?

Stock bulbs were 55 watts. Lights should be routed through relay on fuse plate.

You would need to have some very high wattage bulbs for them to be blowing the fuse on their own.
Disconnect 1bulb and see if the fuse still blows. You can test fog light this way and see if one or the other is the problem.

You can use the DVM if it has a 10A setting.

It was mentioned the bulbs are 55W.

Power is calculated as P = V x I. So current I = P/V = 55/12 ~ 4.5A each bulb.

Two bulbs would be 9A in steady state, maybe more on startup until the filaments heat up.

As mentioned, try one lamp and see if it pops the fuse. These do need a relay to protect the switch from damage.

I disconnected one fog lamp and the fuse still blew. I tried a 25 amp fuse and had the same problem.

I have a set of H4's as my head lights I need to remove them to see what wattage they are perhaps the combination of the two is just too much

From the factory each low beam has a fuse and each high beam has a fuse and the fog lights are on another fuse. The fog lights also use a relay.
So 4 separate fuses for the headlights and 1 fuse for the fog lights.

Fuses 1 & 2 are the low beams
Fuses 3 & 4 are the high beams
Fuse 10 has the fog lights.and horn.

I've got what appears to be the exact same problem in my 75. The lights come on but blow the fuse after a short amount of time or when the horn is honked. I suspect they were wired without a relay. I'm wondering if I can install some led bulbs instead of rewiring with a relay?

dead short, was correct.

I should have guessed that it was a problem with my wiring, turns out that the female connector at the drivers side light bent and was grounding on the fog lamp housing.

I installed a new connector and installed heat shrink tubing on all four connectors.

This car has not had fog lamps for 43 years...

looks great! they will help a lot at night if you have stock headlights. the new LED's are nice too-- It looks like your left one need a slight adjustment, its looks as though it is pointed outward slightly. anyway I really like the yellow!

Dr. Phil, i think you are referring to the 2nd pic. That light on the floor seems to be coming from the sunlight and not from the foglamp. A little orange light maybe from the foglamp.

Thanks all for the positive comments, and the help. Fabricating the brackets was a bit of a pain but am very happy with the end result.



Ed, I'm using stock lugs with lug covers, I had them for some times so I do not know where they are source from.

Oh yeah I know what those are. They look like black lug nuts the Fuch’s guys use.

You need the tool to remove the caps.
