Is the AA 73 Toolkit accurate? Options

I'm glad to see that someone offers 914 tool kits. In this case, AA offers them. They have one for 70-72:

Mine is an early 73 (662). A different source shows the following for early 73:

The latter includes a towing eye, hubcap removal tool, and spark plug tool. AA's kit doesn't have this, though the towing eye is sold separately. Although this site says that not all early cars had the white screwdriver handle, the shape in the pic appears like the AA 70-72 kit. So I'm left wondering, which is accurate? My car only has the tommy bar and lug wrench.

My 74 has a white regular handle combo screwdriver, tow hook, Hazet 11mm/13mm open end wrench (black-ish color), hubcap hook and a plug tool, all in a cheap black plastic bag with 4 holes punched in it.

I don't even consider the bar as part of the kit, that's part of the jack, it certainly doesn't fit the bag.

I'd say far from a correct repro for my year.

My kit looks like the late '73 kit, not the '74 kit with a black handle screwdriver. Also my tow hook is cadmium (gold-ish).

BTW the handle colour difference is no surprise, VW/Porsche was known to use up the last years stock on the new years cars.

The AA screwdriver is from a rabbit/golf.

I also think the thin extension plug socket and small bar on the early kits (P914 link) are /6 only items.

I bought the AA black plastic bag since I never had one. I've never seen an original in person, but they look shinier in pics than the AA bag. The AA bag also doesn't have the holes which is acknowledged in the description, but it was good enough for my purposes.

You can still find most of the pieces for the late kit except for the bag on ebay fairly cheap.

That's what I'd do. If you have trouble finding anything on ebay, try searching the European ebay site. I found a bigger selection there, but of course, shipping goes up.

What is the /6 thin extension plug socket (no bar) worth?

I have one, I believe it's the same as in a 911 tool kit.
On my /6 3.0 conversion I have a SC plug socket and matching hex key, so I don't really need this one.

Same as in the middle, right under the bag, of this pic. Mine is the same, but it only has 3 bar through holes, the one in the pic has 4.

914 tools are all VW type, '73-'76 914-4 kits are the same tool kit that came with the VW "Thing" so look at VW sites for tools like the Samba.

screwdriver with our kit is an original factory part, we have always seen the jack bar with the original tool bag. 72 is more comprehensive than the later ones in the black plastic bag. We still have one factory original boxed 72 tool kit that we compare ours too and the mach is really too close to call. Tow eye was never part of the original kit, except in the sixes. We are currently examining the reproduction of the tow eye

Really? The first '73 I owned came with all the bits shown on the P914 site for '74 except it was missing the bag as mentioned earlier.

I just completed mine and just matched it up to the stuff my owners manual shows in in the kit. 73 was a transition year for the kits so your manual may be one of 2 prints. Mine had the longer list of items. If using EBay search VW parts. Wild swings in price for the exact same items. 356 plug wrench 100 bucks, same wrench in VW 25bucks.

Here's an interesting twist on the manual list. I have the receipt from the PO I bought my '73 from for a replacement "73 edition" owner's manual purchased in 1976. Indeed, my manual has an inventory sticker on it and it also has the long list for the tool kit. So even manuals being sold several years after the fact might list the early kit parts regardless of what came with the car.

914 specific. Got one on EBay about a week ago for 60.00 delivered.

I know for sure aircooled VW's don't have the them. Some have a loop for the front welded or bolted to the front beam.

Porsche 996/997 does have them, but they're a much more useful/substantial part that you can put a sideload on.
The 914 hook will bend if you even look at it sideways.
