Thanks to all who came and to those who brought stuff (shout out to Oscar!) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) . I have lots of beer and shop rags now.
I was happy to host. Aside from a headache from all the fumes, everything went well the garage is back in operation. Someone left a water container (tdskip, I think), I also have a harbor freight mallet and a socket (13 mm, I think) along with a 1/4 to 1/8 socket adapter and some miscellaneous nuts and bolts. |

Did anybody get a complete transmission done? I was wondering what the results were of successful rebuilds?
Any strikeouts? Bad/terminal transmissions? We need an "on the scene reporter...!" |

Thanks Jeff, Dr and April for hosting this event. It was a lot of fun and I'm thrilled about my freshly rebuilt trans. Awesome day and great meeting all of your guys. Ravi, you have an awesome looking 914! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Gabe So Gabe was that the tranny you bought from me? I read your earlier posts and didn't realize you were in a bind or I would have charged more......... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) I'm glad it worked out for you. Looked like it was a lot of fun. |

914 trans are like a box of cracker jacks. You never know what you have until you open it up. Some took there chances and others opened them up and took lots of pictures for the doc to evaluate prior to the event.
We were lucky this time around. |

I think everyone, except for poor Oscar, had their trans completley refreshed by the end of the day. (The trans he brought to the clinic had terminal internal water damage that was not found until the trans was completely opened up and the gear stack removed. The ring & pinion looked great when you took the side cover off, but the other gears and internal were all rusted and corroded.)
I think the clinic was a great event and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who has the chance and is thinking of attending one of Dr. Evil's clinics. I took a used sideshift tranny I had bought a couple of weeks before the event (of unknown condition) and went thru it. The trans needed couple of syncros, a new 1st/reverse slider, and new bearings, which I had luckily ordered from the good Dr. before the event. Otherwise, it was just fine. I bought this trans so I could convery my 1970 tailshifter to a sideshifter. We are moving to Peru in a couple of years when my wife retires. I wanted a bullet proof trans, since we intend to take the 914 with us to Peru. It will be much easier to repair down there since it does not have the sophisticated computer systems of our Caymen S and Mini Cooper, and I do all of my own work on our cars. Plus it has way more ground clernace than the Cayman S or my other toy, a 1963 Jaguar XKE. Mike D. |

I finished installing my newly rebuilt 1st gear assembly.
It now shifts nicely into gear. No more grinding. Thanks to Jeff for hosting. Thanks Oscar for the BBQ. Thanks to Dr Evil for your knowledge and assistance. It was a good day with old and new friends. Don |

I had a great time! Many thanks to the Dr for the excellent work. I only wish he didn’t have so many cancellations and no-shows for offering his time and talent. I would gladly attend another clinic and buy a core just for the hell of it. The box I brought to rebuild ended up with more parts from my core trans than the originals. Now I need to decide whether to install it or drive the one I have until it fails. Or sell...
