Seller will not disclose the VIN and has no COA. Assuming this is an authentic LE, care to speculate on what this will go for?
Is this 914 owned by someone here? We saw a similar condition Bumblebee go surprisingly big last year I won't post my guess to not influence your guesses. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1974-Porsche-914/2...LIAAOSwyedbFHsq Attached image(s) |

IMHO, It's not so much he doesn't want to provide the VIN now so it can be authenticated, but more logically because once that hulk has an identity it will be branded for what it is when it resurfaces later on having been disguised/ restored as an 'original' car. . . From the looks of the car, the only thing valuable or usable is the VIN. .

A problem for a buyer, when the VIN or COA is not available or withheld is that they cannot verify authenticity. Dood is characterizing this car FS as an LE, yet they can be faked. All the 'authenticating' qualities the seller mentions can be faked, even when the car is within the known VIN range of LE cars. I have records of several L80E cars in the VIN range that are not LEs. Without the COA one cannot be certain, and if its not real then its deceptive and misrepresented and could subject the seller to legal action. No problem with a tribute car as long as its disclosed as such. Here is one example of a fake I have others:

Well “all original sway bars, front and back” persudes me that the seller knows Porsche 914s backwards and forwards. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

If the sellers name is George AKA 'lost treasure' count your fingers after he shakes your hand. Many reports of very sketchy behavior here and on Ebay He wouldn't let me see a 914 6 he had listed on Ebay Other people here have had similar experiences. |

So far no response. I don't get it. Two types of people look at this car.
The clueless, and someone who needs to if it is a real Can-Am car and if there is enough left to save. Maybe trying to avoid the latter. |

$1500
All the signs of a raw deal are there. Not enough proof and not enough car there. The claims of "indicators" should be backed up with a COA. Seller doesn't even attempt to prove it's got a 2.0 engine. Run away, run away! |

With a car like this, you win it, go look at it, if you don't like it, walk. If you aren't able to pick it up yourself, don't bid on it.
When I bought my 914-6 the seller on ebay knew nothing about it, probably got it for free. I did my due diligence, called and asked questions, he lied. I went to pick up the car, he had taken pictures backed up to a fence, so you couldn't see the back of the car. I had asked about rust that wasn't in the pictures, he said you could see it in the pictures. Well, when I went to pick up the car the whole back end was rotten off, tail lights were literally floating. But it was still a matching numbers 6 for $3500, so I bought it, but I could have walked if I couldn't stomach the car. This is how deep I had to cut back to get to good metal on the rear end, I've never seen one so rusty. Attached image(s) |
