Funny but that was the destination for 2017, but tioga pass was closed, so we had to hang around Mammoth. I went skiing one of the days and had a blast anyways. I used to live in Stockton and drove the 914 to Yosemite on many occasions in my youth. I once spun the 914 at least 5 spins on black ice and ended up in a ditch on the way up there one year. This was in the late 70’s when I was much younger and had no fear.

The ONLY upside of the big Winter (and pass closings!) was record melt provided to historic water falls in Yosemite. At least according to the Park Rangers...this picture was taken a couple days after WCR last year. Amazing place...

When and if SoCal is the choice it will need to be some place N of LA like San Simeon (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) or E of LA like Big Bear/Lake Arrowhead or Temecula/Idyllwild. There are plenty of motels in and around Temecula but they can get pricey in the Wine Country. Idyllwild has many small motels 6-10 rooms and 2 motels w/ more than 30. That being said, if Idylwilld were selected and one central hotel was required it would need to be reserved 12-18 months in advance. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) I'm not familiar with the availability in the Big Bear area but I'd suppose the demand would be greater. Palm Springs is another possibility but we would need to get our butt's out of there early and return late or face the Hellacious heat. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Just a recap on 2018. after Tshirt and hat sales have closed out we have $833.90 in the kitty. Some of that was also due to a donation for sales of a rotisserie the Rhodyguy helps put together. Refresh my memory who donated it. I want to thank them too.
All in all a successful event on the ledger. We did also donate some into event, but really it was all of you that made it work. Thanks to all of you for helping to make this happen. -Mark |

Thats a cool idea (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) If Mark wants to step up and plan this, I will be there. A suggestion: We stopped MUSR at #13 when we only had 5 cars show up. So how about we resurrect MUSR at #14 for 2020? Have it in eastern Colorado because the center of the US sucks for driving roads. Advertise it heavily on here, And see if we can get a LOT of 914s from both coasts to show up. Okteenerfest, WCR, RRC and the rest take a 1 year hiatus to do the 2020 event. And we make it a little more than 1 weekend to encourage everyone to show up. I think over 200 914s in one spot would get the attention of Porsche North America. And it would be one HELL of a party!!!!! |

Then my drive would be shorter but we would still have serious slopes to make the drives what they oughta be. |
