When I started this project of 914-6 conversion my 1st parts were a set of nice 15x7 and 15x8 fuchs with brand new p6000s on them. They had no miles on them. I dropped off a few tires and wheels to get mounted up and they called that the new zero mile tires had a 3 inch cut on one and a chunk missing from the other. How is this possible 1st of all . They removed the tires so the wheels could be refinished and also remounted them.. Seems like a sales job to me..

Either way p 6000s are 260 each. So now wondering what to do. Could I use 205 50 and 225 50s on the wheels. I can almost get the brand new tires (4) for the "2" bad tires?

Thoughts?

Is the cut and chunk on the same side and same area. I bet someone got heavy handed with tire removal.

I used to get frustrated when contractors would work on my house and tear up something to do their job, ex. Trash the painted drywall to replace an electric switch. Now I see mechanics scratch paint to work on mechanicals. It doesnt even faze them. No comprehension of the big picture. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

I am thinking the 225s might not fit? I don't think the performance of the P6000 justifies the price. Did you check out Toyos? A pretty good performance tire. I was looking Continental, they are doing a rebate and some prices look good. Plus good tires. How old are the P6000s, age wise?

A mutual friend had the same issue with his 7 & 8x15” Fuchs and ended up getting some Coopers as he doesn’t race his car other than occasional auto-x for fun. He seems quite satisfied with them. You’d think that there would be enough folks looking for the 911 15” wheel combinations that some manufacturer would run a batch. I imagine that they could even get pre-orders from folks.

I think the 15” market is really small potatoes, especially in sizes over 205. The tire companies want big orders to make a mold. A couple thousand tires isn’t even worth it.

I wonder if they preserve the molds or just sell them off to Coker? There certainly were enough SCs sold that used that size (or actually 6 & 7x15 as standard if I remember correctly).

I would wait until you are close to driving the car. Tires will be newer and you might find a sale.

I just got a set of 225/50x15 r888r Toyo's for my car and so far they have been great.

Not the cheapest and certainly not your average street tire but i put 1500 miles on them during the WCR and they have worn very well and handled great in the rain too.

Plus, they stick like glue in the dry and even improved the ride, they make the car less "jumpy" with my rather aggressive suspension setup.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

PS: If you have severe OCD, do *not* buy these tires!
They have asymmetrical tread and no left/right option, meaning one side of the car has the (few) grooves reversed.

Andy,

Were they for 7s or 8s?.

Might also be an option for my son's 944.

Another +1 on Toyo PROXES R888R -
I have 205/50ZR15 on 7s with minor lip rolling on a narrow body.
Great tires.

We’ve had a couple sets go through our shop. With amazon prime, it’s cheaper for us to buy online than tire rack, even with our shop discount.

Andy: do the Toyo R888 225x50x15 fit inside the front fenders on 7 inch fuchs without flares? I have them on 8 inch fuchs on the back with flares, but don't have flares up front.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Did you pay for the tires or were they “thrown in” with the wheels.

Well long story short. Bought an 87 911 and these tires were on the wheels on the car. Had just put the tires on and drove to my place. The guy decided he didn't want to pay for all the fixes the car needed so I bought it. Then sold the car to a guy who didn't want the wheels so I kept them for my project. Then late last year the guy contacted me about buying the wheels so he had the date matched wheels I said no way. Then relented and he traded the same Fuchs for mine so had to have the perfectly good tires off. And that's where everything went sideways.
