What is the purpose of the light at the end of the red arrow?

If the gauge is part # 91464110150, which you can't really see when it's in the dash (it's directly over the temp gauge on the inside lip) then believe me because I have one, in my hands about to go into one of my cars, it's not a warning light of any kind. It is a blank for the bulb that illuminates the Tank and Temp gauges when you turn on the dash lights. Not sure why the Dr. doesn't know this, maybe he doesn't have one in front of him.
