In the old days we used the old oil after an oil change. This wasn't on Porche's so wait for an informed answer. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

I believe the manual for my 68 bus said 30 weight oil. I assume it is the same for early 914s too.

Motor oil. Same stuff you put in the engine, because it will be convenient and to hand. It also saves you from having to keep track of (very slightly) different oils for different purposes when those differences aren't actually needed.
