I bought a 993 and sold the 914-6 conversion. Missed the 914, bought it back and sold the 993. I bought a Toyota 86 aka scion frs aka subaru brz for a daily driver with all the modern conveniences. I am a happy camper. The best of both worlds. If I had lots of money, I would replace the Toyota with a Caymen or modern 911, but I can't see that happening anytime soon supporting three daughters.

If I've learned anything in this game, it's that 1) "best" is a funny landscape and one that's both personal and, depending on one's chapter in life, situational; and 2) the 914 holds up well against other Porsche road cars—with vintage Porsche sounds, smells, and sensibilities combined with considerably more performance and dynamics at a curb weight Porsche has never been able to approach again.

Years ago, I had to decide whether to keep my 914 or a really nice 911 SC. I figured I could always find another nice 911, and have never regretted the decision to let the 911 go. When it looked like there was a good chance our house would burn and I was on a different continent, my wife asked what to get out of the house. One item and the 914, I said. "What about the GT4?!?" she asked. "Let it burn," I said. YMMV!

Lol.. I sold the 993 versus the 914. The Toyota replaced my other daily driver rice rocket that died years later. The 993 needed 10k worth of work, plus it was a 4 speed tiptronic.
