Has anyone ever built (and completed) a Porsche 914 Safari? I know that Eric Shea has been building one on-and-off for awhile, but it does not appear to be finished yet. Anyone ever finished one?
I am thinking of building a mild version of a Safari 914 for use when I move to Peru in a couple of years. The towns and villages outside of the metropolitan Lima area usually have lots of unpaved and/or gravel roads, and we like to venture off the paved roads. I already have a Jeep that I am taking, but want a "fun" car too. Since building Safari-style Porsche 911's is the latest fad, someone must be doing 914 Safari's too. |

Yes, Oscar added on a whole new wing to his already spacious home just to do this build. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sawzall-smiley.gif)

I didn't think the style would work with a 914 but that white on above looks pretty cool.

Yes…I am in the process of building a lightweight Safari type build powered by a recently acquired four cylinder 2056cc from a local member. Just rebuilt carbs and all ready to go. I’m almost done sourcing 5 lug conversion components thanks to another member. Hardly any weld repair necessary on driver side floor. Body is ready for minor bodywork and paint. I have all interior pcs that again, I’ve sourced from members here.
I practically have all I need except time…but I’m working on it. Trying to decide on paint scheme? Here’s a quick rendering of what is inspiring me. BTW…I am looking for a set of metal GT flares….anyone have some laying around? Minor damage okay. Oscar |

Oscar Looks rally good. see what I did there (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I would think about painting white and then do the graphics in vinyl. |

Hey! that's my artwork above! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
I made a 3D version and rendered it out, several variations of it but I'll just post the one. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/c2.staticflickr.com-19709-1533826271.1.jpg) |

I always liked the Safari 911s and I think it is very practical for a 914 to go up a few inches and become a safari car.

Love the renderings by Glen - and looking forward to seeing Oscars build thread...!
Must say, being a rally fan, one detail I loved about the old Works Escort mk1 Safari cars was the extended roll cage forwards to the front strut tops. For a 914 with an internal cage, this would help triangulate / strengthen the front of the car: Then extending the roll cage out to the back strut tops - in the style of the Ernst Seller 914-6 GT - would be a natural complement. Also don't forget the nudge bar structure across the front to encourage fauna and animals out of the way... - Tony |
