What about a copyright?

Put it all down on paper and register it?

Oh.. I had NO problems with the shifter hitting the clutch tube once we got it adjusted correctly.

I think it is hitting other peoples clutch tubes because they are not adjusting them correctly or their clutch tube has been repaired and not positioned correctly during the repair.

I'm betting half these guys dont even know the shifter is "supposed" to sit in the 2-3 plane when the car is in neutral.

B

Yep, my clutch tube has busted loose from the tunnel. When it's where it "belongs" there is no issue. If my adel clamp holds I will be very happy with that $0.60 fix...

Well can you tell us how to properly adjust it? as I will be trying to put in my short shift (My guess is that adjusting will be the same) in the car very soon..

Sorry. That wouldn't work. The copyright would protect the written work but it would not stop someone from using that written work like a blueprint to make their own shifter. It's like a cookbook. You can have a copyright on your cookbook but you can't stop other people from using your receipes to make dinner.

In fact, if James were to write out his specs and make them public that would make it easier, not harder for people to copy him.

The whole patent/copywrite thing you guys are saying is about what I thought. Good topic, though, and I'm sure it will be useful as others produce stuff for our cars.

The way I look at it, I am not really leaving any room for someone to beat my price point. It would be hard for someone to even justify doing one for themselves using my idea - I am really not making enough on each one.

PS, I'm out of town right now so that's why I am not following this very closely.

Add me to the list of happy RennShift customers (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif). I didn't have any problems with the install, no mods to the clutch tube (tail shifter with solid tranny mounts). Took it for a spin, did a few minor adjustments, and all I can say is awesome!!! I love the 20% reduced throw, and there is a lot less guessing when I downshift, especialy 4th - 3rd.

I plugged the shifter the next day at one of our Northern VA (NoVA) Gatherings (99% 911's). I hope some of them take the plunge and buy it!!!

Great Job James (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

I have a 9146 (stock at the shop right now) I'm thinking about shooting a very short video showing the "slop" in the stock shifter then installing a Rennshift and shooting the same video for a side by side comparison.

You know I would like you to do that!

On that same topic, I have some in-car track video of the RennShift in action in a 911SC. It is on VHS. What is the best/cheapest/easiest way to get that in digital format to put on my website? Thanks!

I'll see if I can knock it out. I dont have a digital video camera.. just a digital camera that shoots MPEG video's.

I moved the 9146 around yesterday and laughed at how bad the shifter "moved around".. the tranny shifts perfect.. the shifter is BAD (as I think all of them are 100% worn out)

James - re the video, a couple options are to use a "capture" card on the PC with regular RCA inputs, or transfer the VHS to a DV tape. From there you'd have to have some video editing & compression software such as Adobe Premiere, Microsoft Movie Maker or whatnot.

I have a Pinnacle Systems TV tuner & capture card that only cost like $80. It can digitize anything fed into its RCA or S-Video inputs, i.e. VCR, DirecTV box, etc.
