Friends,

We're seeing an increase in spam posts. Spam is not just annoying, but the links can go to hazardous parts of the internet with malicious code to infect your computer. Can you help us keep the site cleaned up?

The spammers are getting smart and not creating threads, but posting to existing threads. Almost always, it's from new user accounts that actually finished the sign-up process.

If you see something that needs a clean-up, please PM the following admins with a link to the thread involved:

-ClayPerrine
-Vacca Rabite
-Rusty

By emailing all three of us, one of us is sure to clean it up quickly and *ahem* escort the jerkwad off the premises.

Almost every post of mine could be interpreted as SPAM. It's totally subjective. I prefer mine cold straight out of the can... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chowtime.gif)

This could be a problem too Andy. Spammers can use this feature and really create a mess.

They can already send PMs and emails to members once they signed up, in addition to post anywhere on the site.

You really think this is going to push them over the edge and get them all excited?

I've noticed that the past few days but not being a veteran of the site was not sure what to do about it. It's frustrating having it take away from the fantastic content and community we have here.

Now I know who's inbox to (IMG:style_emoticons/default/spam.gif) whenever I see (IMG:style_emoticons/default/spam.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif)

Seriously though, here's a huge thank you to the admins on here (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

It's a vulnerability you need to be aware of. It just became much easier. PM generation takes more clicks and a enrolling. It's now very easy for anyone to go into any thread and post a message.

Does the user need to be logged in to use this? or can a guest post and the @ notification works?

Very easy now to just open any thread and post a message with:
@anyusername1
@anyusername2
@anyusername3
@anyusername4
@anyusername5
@anyusername6
@anyusername7
@anyusername8
@anyusername9
@anyusername10000 .....is there a limit on the number of users?

I can blast 20 threads in the time it takes to create one.

It would take them a long time to get the user names and tag people in. Spammers are lazy and need to work on volume to make money. Taking the time to find everyones usernames is not profit friendly.

Also, the only result would be that we all see a notification and a link to the thread, which would then kill it.

It baffles me when people question our admins. Why would you do that? Just enjoy it or leave it. Andy is as expert as it gets in server management and all that goes with it, and the admins have IT experience.
