Any year will work.
But the purpose of the device is to dilute the exhaust gases, to pass emissions standards, no real effect on performance except to reduce throttle braking, not the best for sporty driving.
Cap up the ports and leave it out, unless this is a concourse build.

Sounds like you may have confused the AAR with the Decel Valve.

The AAR allows extra intake air, for a higher idle speed during cold-start warmup.

The Decel Valve limits the amount of vacuum in the intake during deceleration. It does help with emissions, but it also helps to protect the diaphragm in the MPS.

Anyone ever try to adapt one of the later Bosch AAR valves, such as from the 84-era 944? Looks like it should be easy to do, and they're available for around $75.

Plus, it may be possible to adjust them so that an electrical connection may not be needed, if mounted on a hot part of the engine.
