The '71 is a beauty but also a bit of a mashup.
Most interesting is what appear to be Euro buckets under US lenses in the front.

20 years ago there were die hard 924 owners who swore by their cars. It would be fun to drive one.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

It is an interesting car, It is super quiet and at 70mph it is wonderful. As you would imagine, it's a little under powered, and not as tight in the twisties as the 914, or 911. But as a grand touring car or a daily, I can see why they were the success for the period.

If you read the description, you can see they were not cheap either. 18k in 1980 was a crap ton of $.

I'm going to miss having it in the stable, but now that I have a really good 914, it became odd man out.

When PCNA moved to Reno in 1984, they also split off their parts distribution from Volkswagen. I was a parts guy at the local Wichita Falls TX VW/Porsche/Audi/Mazda dealership.

To clear out the remaining stock, VW sent all dealers a flyer listing all remaining Porsche parts in their inventory, with discount prices. I went through it to see if anything interesting was on it. One of these jumped out at me:

https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/po18/the...no-96037/694980

Complete 4-cam Carrera engine with all accessories, sitting on a palette. And it was going for a stoopit [i]low price. I don't remember what it was exactly, but the number of around $4000 sticks in my head (but it may have been less.)

I remember pleading with the dealer principle, trying to impress upon him the significance of that engine, that he'd easily double his money if he'd buy it and sit on it for a short while. But he had no interest. And, being a engineering student there was no way I could swing it.

I've often wondered what happened to that engine. Someone got a smoking deal.

They don't make 'em anymore, I think that's a bargain. Hopefully it'll go north of that. I'd love to see a nice, original car like that hit $45.

Good Luck, let us know how it does!

Interested to see where these 6's go, I netted $82k on mine on BAT so these would have to go north of $90k to top mine. What do you guys think?

Wow nice cars, like the 924 also, wonder what the 4 cammer will go for ?,remember years ago reading about the top engine guru of these motors offering a rebuild service on these motors,he would offer to fly any where in the world and rebuild your motor for 150K ,makes you think what the cost would be now.

Car shipped out Saturday and just got word from the driver it's delivered in Atlanta.

I fly out Friday super early. Should be a fun weekend, my car was between the 918 Spyder and the RS lightweigt on the transport (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
