this part is a unique beast as you know..
real 914-6 so don't want any mods...or I would throw one of the side shifters I have in it.
I have a few 4 tail shifters also.

Just a question....after reading again, were the tail housings for a tail-shifter different between a -4 and a -6?

Just a question....if its all about originality, why move from the tail-shifter as that's the way that all of them would have come unless you are talking about the 916s, I believe, correct?

After reading again, were the tail housings for a tail-shifter different between a -4 and a -6?

Yes. The linkage too. There are a lot of unique parts to a 6 that aren’t evident without really looking at the details. For example, the torsion rods on a 6 engine lid are lighter since it didn’t have a rain tray etc etc.
