It's not the worst thing in the world. I found out mine was swapped by the "restoration shop" that sold it to me. I've never had an issue but I wish I had known up front.

X2 - it's just a conversion project - so why the hell does anyone care about the year of the shell? what you're buying is what you see - with the benefit of a TITLE & appropriate VIN tags - - consider yourself lucky if it gets you to owning a streetable exempt 3.2 sixer free of legal hassles with DMV et al i knew the P.O. and this car 'way back, i actually drove it when it was a 4-cyl when he was preparing to take it apart & i b'ot the very good driving sideshifter out of it back then (still have that on the shelf - we can never have enuf good spares. eh?) (i agree that the alu trunk tag is misplaced - that's kinda goofy) see this www.914world.com/bbs2/sources/action_public/pop_helpvin.html y'd have to pull the windshield to discover if that tag was moved - - i do not believe the P.O. ever replaced the windshield, so i'll guess he b'ot the car the way you see - P.O. went thru a bunch of 914's back in the day (when we were all still buying 'em for $500 running) - as a '70, it's exempt from SMOG in CA, which it would NOT not have been as a '75, and still not as a '76 titled conversion, - surprised it has been in kept hiding & unfinished for so long |

I was a student in the ROP program & ran a few cars through that facility. then life got in the way of more important things. eventually the county closed the body shop part of the program. these cars are WAY fun to drive & even more so w/ a larger engine. IIRC even as a '75 it is smog exempt. |
