For what it's worth: I was talking to my friend/mechanic yesterday and he mentioned that he was 0 for 2 ordering rod bolts for a six he is rebuilding. They don't fit in the holes and are unacceptable. He spoke to Pelican about it. The manufacture is, get this, "OEM." Other parts are manufactured by "Germany." He surmised that they are Chinese manufacturers and we are being mislead by the name. He finally ordered some from Germany, the country.

On Pelican, OEM is a brand name. I'm sure a bunch of it is Chinese sourced.

Sadly the supply chain has become a crap shoot these days. NOBODY is double checking the product before it's retailed.

It's cheaper to take the return than labor $ for QCing the items. Failure/unacceptability rate is built in. Either you're lucky or not. What does Pelican get for a solo bolt?

You can buy directly from Porsche if you want “oem” parts. It’s not all perfect but much more reliable.

When I was building my 3.0 /6 engine I bought a #8 "german" bearing from a known supplier that was so out of spec (OS) on the ID it was laughable.
I ended up reusing my old #8 as it was in spec.

I was just looking on line at some other parts place and there, too, is OEM parts.

I think this is a deliberate fraud. I think Pelican and others are part of the fraud and should be required to indicate where the part was manufactured.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) Even the major supplier we buy from just lists it as OEM - because that's the name for the company, not it's actual origin. It would be similar to me calling my company "Real Original Parts" and having them made in China.

Good to know, I always assumed they were Original Equipment Manufacturer without the Porsche Tax.

That term is 'oem supplier'.

But then with all the failed leveraged buyouts of European manufactures during the Great Recession, name brand parts might now be from China too.

Some are, if you notice that the part number is ground off it was actually the Porsche logo that's been removed.

For a long time 911 production numbers were so low the scammers ignored the 911, with porsche cars and parts becoming more valuable I think we're seeing the counterfeiters becoming more prevalent.

When I can't get factory parts I try for known names, mahle, sachs, etc.

Unfortunately, this is a problem that is proliferating the supply chain. You've seen this with another supplier I shall not name. Which by the way lists themselves as a supplier to Porsche. Wouldn't be surprised it's them.
They spend money on PR to try to make it sound good, but you can be the judge there.

I always assumed uro & oem were the same people or get their product from the same manufacturer. Their pricing and parts look the same.

They might be, as the Chinese will sell to anyone who pays. We've been able to find sources for some of their parts.
