When I bought my factory -6 car it didn’t have a -6 transmission installed any longer. TC agreed to include an original -6 tranny in the deal but couldn’t guarantee condition. That was fine with me because I figured I’d rebuild it anyway before I used it. Fast forward about 10 years and I finally tore the transmission apart to get the gear sets for a rebuild I’m doing on another transmission. Bad news when I opened it up. At some point there had been water in the transmission and many of the components had rust. The bearings between the gears and the shafts were corroded badly but I thought the gears may be salvageable. Today I finished tearing them apart and I’m not so sure anymore. In the picture you can see the pattern of where the bearing was sitting against the inside of the gear. The gear bearing surface is not perfectly smooth. With a pick you can feel toughness when you run across the discolored areas.

I think I already know the answer but wanted a second, and maybe more optimistic, opinion about running it. It’s going into an autocross box so it won’t see a lot of miles, but I’m putting my Guard differential in there so I don’t want any shrapnel floating around. Attached Image
So, what do you think? (by the way, I’m apparently a very talented photographer. This looks much worse in the photo than it does with the naked eye)
